As a continuing service to small flock owners, the River Valley Shepherds 4-H Club will be conducting a sheep shearing day on Saturday, May 17, 2008 at the Grafton County Farm in North Haverhill, NH beginning at 9:00am.

Many small flock owners know it is almost impossible to hire a sheep shearer for less than twenty sheep without a high cost and scheduling issues. Our shearer for the day will be Jeff Jordan from Chichester, NH. Jeff has been involved with sheep since 1963 and has shorn well over 100,000 sheep from all over New England. Jeff currently raises Corriedale, Dorset, Natural Colored, Romney, and Tunis sheep. In order to make this day successful for all concerned we need to know how many sheep to expect. All flock owners must pre-register. There will be a $10.00 per head fee charged to the flock owner to be paid that day. This will save the owner the “farm stop fee” that most shearers charge. An additional $5.00 per head will be charged for hoof trimming, if the owners desire this service. The River Valley Shepherds 4-H Club will retain a portion of the fee. Sheep can be brought to the Grafton County Farm and shorn as you wait. If there are a large number of sheep coming we will contact you and let you know when to come so as to avoid a long wait. Sheep coming from New Hampshire do not need health papers. Sheep from Vermont need papers to cross state lines. Any flock that is enrolled in the Voluntary ScrapieProgram will be kept separate from other sheep.
